This couple photo session in Tahiti was very special to me because it was with them.
I met Romane and Maihau in December 2021. They were the best man and maid of honor for Kaupe and Manarii, who got married in Ra’iātea. The four of them met as teenagers in the Raromata’i (Leeward Islands), and during the wedding, I could sense the strong bond that united them despite the distance, as Kaupe and Manarii now live in France.
I’ve stayed in touch with Romane, a gentle woman who lifts others up. She and Maihau are very similar in these ways, and their sincerity is touching.
We did this couple photo session in Tahiti for Valentine’s Day. Like almost everyone I photograph, Romane and Maihau are not used to posing, but they immediately trusted me to guide them. During the shoot, we were able to take photos in three different outfits at locations close to one another, which allowed us to create different moods. Romane and Maihau’s close bond and naturalness were key to capturing scenes that were both spontaneous and relaxed. I particularly love these photos because they showcase all the charm of Tahiti, an island between land and sea, between black-sand beaches and pebble beaches.
